Brigadier General Obinna Godwin Onubogu is the Commandant Martin Luther Agwai International Peace Keeping Centre located in Jaji, Kaduna State. He was born in Lagos State, Nigeria and attended the Nigerian Military School Zaria and the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. He was commissioned into the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps as a Second Lieutenant in 1994.

Prior to his appointment as Commandant, Brigadier General Obinna Onubogu was Director Higher Military Organisation and Operations at the National Defence College Nigeria and also Chief of Staff of the Infantry Corps which is the foremost Corps of the Nigerian Army. He has contributed immensely to counter terrorism and counter insurgency operations in North-East Nigeria, under Operation LAFIYA DOLE as Commander 25 Brigade and Commander 29 Brigade. He has also served as Commander 16 Brigade and Deputy Director for Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency Operations at the Nigerian Army Training Centre.

Brigadier General Obinna Onubogu holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Physics and a Master of Science degree in Security and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy. He also obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems from the African Centre for Space Science Technology Education (in English) in Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Peace and Reconciliation Studies from Coventry University United Kingdom. He has attended several courses and obtained certifications in several fields of endeavour including the Peacekeeping Stabilization Operations at the Land Warfare Centre Warminster, United Kingdom and a Certificate from the Harvard Kennedy School, Boston USA having attended the Senior Executive Leadership Course in National and International Security in 2017.

Brigadier General Obinna Onubogu has garnered vast peacekeeping experience while serving in a number of peacekeeping missions in Liberia, Sierra Leone, DR Congo, and Guinea Bissau. He was a contingent member of the ECOWAS Monitoring Group between 1996 and 1999 as well as the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone in 2001. He was a military observer and staff officer from 2005 to 2006 at the United Nations Mission in DR Congo (MONUC) now referred to as the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the DR Congo or MONUSCO. He was also the Deputy Force Commander for the ECOWAS Mission in Guinea Bissau from 2012 – 2014, where he was instrumental in supporting ECOWAS efforts at stabilizing the country and returning it from military rule to democratic governance.

He has brought his combined expertise in field operations, higher defence management, peacekeeping, and leadership to bear on his new role at the Martin Luther Agwai International Peace Keeping Centre to improve training at the centre and raise the international profile of the centre.
